Brief Description
Hingham is a town on Massachussett's South Shore in Plymouth County. Hingham lies on the southwest corner of the Boston Harbor, or known as Hingham Bay. In recent years Hingham has become one of the most coveted suburbs of Boston to live in as it is accessible to the city via the water taxi that pulls into Boston's Long Wharf, or the new Greenbush Commuter line of the MBTA.
History
When first established in 1633, the town was known as Bare Cove, only to later be named Hingham in 1635. During the years of WWII, Eleanor Roosevelt used Hingham as the model for an American Main Street during that time. She proclaimed that it had the most beautiful Main Street that she had ever seen in the country. Even today, that is still a belief that is held by many as the Main Street continues to be dotted with beautiful old Colonial homes, shops, and trees.
